Forewinter

It is the Upper Paleolithic Age, 25,000 years ago. Glaciers cover the land, and mammoths still roam. Europe is locked in an ice age, and winter is just beginning. Take the role of a prehistoric hunter gatherer as you lead a group of survivors to a distant land to escape the cold.

Introduction

Forewinter is a solo survival game involving deck building and resource management. Use resources to travel to new areas and improve your deck over the course of a game. Travel to all 20 areas to win, or keep going and see how long you can survive. You lose when the winter countdown runs out or all of your health is depleted. Each game takes about 60-90 minutes to play.

Gameplay

Gameplay revolves around the resources in your deck. Forage for resources and use them to travel to new areas. Winter gets closer after every turn, so you must optimize your deck to travel in as few turns as possible. Along the way encounter events that will help or hinder you on your journey. Use resources to buy new cards that make your deck more efficient or help you fight off enemies.

Why play Forewinter?

1. Every time you play is a little different. Random and temporarily purchasable cards encourage you to adopt different strategies each time and consider the risks of buying a card you might need later or risk waiting for something else to come along. There are enough events that you will not encounter all of them in a single playthrough.
2. Minimal text and dice rolls. Once you know the icons almost all cards can be understood at a glance. Dice rolls are few and far between and whenever necessary can be determined in a single roll.
3. Win condition or endless survival. To win you must travel to all 20 areas, but once you get there you can keep going and try to build a perfect deck. Adjustments to the event deck in endless mode keep up the challenge after your deck has already been established.
4. A window into the past. Creating a rich theme is just as important as gameplay. Though it is not without some liberties, the game is designed to accurately represent the wildlife, technology, and landscapes of Europe during the Paleolithic period.
